Recently i upgraded my Operating System to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS from ubuntu 12.04 LTS in my Dell Vostro laptop. But after upgrade has finished i found my wifi connection not working in Ubuntu 14.04.
I checked #ifconfig -a, but wlan0 is not listed in the list of interfaces.
After some research i found the solution.
Here i'm providing some commands to troubleshoot your wlan interface.
> Check all the wireless devices available in the system and their state (block or unblock)
#rfkill list all
Here i did not found my Wlan device.. If wireless device installed properly the output will be
And make sure Wireless LAN is unblocked (blocked: no) for proper working.
>Check wireless interface is configured or not
#iwconfg
if Configured the output will be
#dmesg | grep -e wlan -e b43
> Check the wireless card installed in your laptop, (The following command will display the chip-id,PCI-id, kernel driver in use)
# lspci -vvnn | grep -A 9 Network
And finally installed broadcom drivers using the following command (after installation Restart may required) through the Wired ethernet connection.
$sudo apt-get update
$sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
Then my Wifi connected properly..
